The Formula 1 Heineken Chinese Grand Prix 2020 scheduled for April 17-19 has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak after the sport’s governing body the FIA and Formula 1 jointly accepted the request from the race promoter.
In the view of the continued spread of the coronavirus and after long discussions with promoter Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports of People’s Republic of China (CAMF) and Shanghai Administration of Sports and the Chinese GP promoter, the Juss Sports Group, has requested that the Formula 1 Heineken Chinese Grand Prix 2020 be postponed.
With the result of the coronavirus being a global health emergency from the World Health Organisation and continued health concerns, the FIA and Formula 1 have taken measures to ensure the health and safety of competitors, travelling staff and fans, which are of major concern.
Formula 1 and the FIA are continuing to work closely with the teams, race promoter Juss Sports Group, Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports of People’s Republic of China and local authorities to keep an eye on the situation as it develops.
All parties are studying the potential alternative dates for the Chinese Grand Prix later in the season should the situation improve.
