@AlpineF1Team reveals blue-and-pink 2022 challenger, the #A522. #F1
BWT Alpine F1 Team unveiled their new contender to the world, the A522 in Paris, that will contest the 2022 FIA Formula 1 World Championship under the sports new raft of technical regulations designed to produce closer and competitive racing.
The A522 keeps it’s traditional Alpine blue livery, couple this year with BWT’s iconic pink, the Anglo-French based manufacturer’s announced title sponsor for the 2022 campaign.
In a twist during the proceedings, BWT Alpine F1 Team also released a “flipped” livery with pink the most dominant colour, with the unique colours being used for the opening two rounds of the FIA Formula One World Championship season at the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, to highlight the title-sponsorship with BWT.
The launch of BWT Alpine F1 Team’s second Formula 1 car was lead by Alpine F1 Team CEO Laurent De Rossi, CEO of Renault Group, Luca De Meo as well as newly appointed Team Principal Otmar Sazafnauer.
BWT Alpine F1 Team’s driver pairing of double-World Champion Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon were on hand to reveal the Renault-powered A522 to the world.
The new-look team will be aiming to go from strength-to-strength in 2022, with further progression after Alpine impressed in it’s debut season in the sport last year.
The technical side of BWT Alpine F1 Team will continue to be lead by experienced duo of Chief Technical Officer, Pat Fry and new Team Technical Director, Matt Harman at Enstone.
In Viry-Chatillon, the team recently appointed Bruno Famin as Executive Director of Alpine Racing, tasked to maximise the engine performance and integration into the A522’s chassis.
Staff across both factories in England and France have been working flat-out for 18-months to create the A522 against the new radical regulation changes introduced for the 2022 season.
Alongside the completely new chassis and car build, the Anglo-French based squad was proud to showcase it’s all new Renault E22 power-train, marking another chapter in the French manufacturer’s heritage in the sport.
The engine specification and packaging has allowed the team to have extra freedom in shaping the rest of the A522 to better exploit the new rules and regulations and adjust for the latest fuel specification, E10, as the next step to sustainable fuels in Formula One.
Alpine F1 Team keeps stability in their driver line-up of duo Alonso and Ocon for a second year running with the latter scoring the French manufacturer’s first victory under the Alpine banner last season at the Hungarian Grand Prix with the former entering his twentieth record-breaking campaign in the sport. The French manufacturer ended the 2021 season sixth in the World Constructor’s Championship standings.
FIA Formula 2 World Champion Oscar Piastri is the team’s official reserve driver after graduating from the team’s academy last year.
Alpine’s CEO Laurent Rossi explained:
“It’s with great pleasure that we launch our A522 to the world today, marking the next chapter in Alpine’s Formula 1 journey. We are proud racers and have poured the essence of Alpine’s racing heritage and passion into this new generation of car. We have a clear plan and vision in place at Alpine and we have some of the best people in the business to help drive us forward and realise our ambitions. Our team is stronger now and, we hope, future-proof. Our driver line-up is the perfect recipe to help deliver the results we want to achieve on track. In 2022, we want to show constant progress with comprehensive developments across all sites to ensure we are contenders for the title in the future. We are going in the right direction and we want to carry on our climb to the summit.” Rossi concluded. Credit to Alpine F1 Team for the quote.
Ocon added:
“I’m very excited, of course, to not only see the A522 for the first time but to drive it for the first time this week. It’s always a privilege to drive a new Formula 1 car for the first time as you know all the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes at both factories in Enstone and Viry from all of the many talented people working in the different departments there. That feeling and responsibility is truly unique and very special. I feel prepared, I feel ready physically, so let’s hit the track and see what we’ve got in our hands this year!” Ocon concluded. Two-time World Champion Alonso stated:
“It’s good to be back and I’ve been working hard to be ready for the new season. The build-up has been a long time coming after the rule change was delayed due to the pandemic. The car looks fantastic with the new regulations in place and I like the new livery. We have a new engine and we’re confident we had a good development in place for this new generation of car. We won’t know where everyone stands until Bahrain, but we’re excited to take the car for its first spin in testing this week. I hope the new regulations have worked and we get more exciting wheel to wheel racing this year.” Alonso concluded. Credit to Alpine F1 Team for the quote.
Alonso and Ocon will pilot the A522 for the first time in a filming day today at Spain’s Circuit De Barcelona-Catalunya before embarking on Formula 1’s first official pre-season test tomorrow Wednesday February 23-Friday February 25.
