The 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship calendar was officially confirmed at a meeting of the FIA World Motorsport Council in Cologne, Germany.
The season features a record breaking 22 Grands Prix, which will begin with the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020 on the streets of Albert Park from March 12-15 and end with the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2020 at the Yas Marina Circuit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The FIA Formula 1 World Championship welcomes Vietnam to the calendar for the Formula 1 Vietnam Grand Prix 2020 from April 10-12 on the streets of Hanoi.
Six days of pre-season testing at the Circuit De Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain was also confirmed for the F1 teams.
Traditionally, there have been two-four day tests held at the Catalan circuit, which hosts the Spanish Grand Prix but with an extra race added to the calendar, a compromise was reached.
Two three-day tests will be held with the first running from February 19-21 and the final one from February 26-28 with a four day gap in-between both.
The two in-season tests, which took place at the Bahrain International Circuit and the Circuit De Barcelona-Catalunya, have been removed from the 2020 schedule, and puts a greater emphasis on testing parts during the Friday practice sessions throughout the campaign.
A raft of changes to the 2020 Sporting Regulations was discussed and will be proposed to the World Motor Sport Council for a decision by an e-vote.
The Council was also presented with a detailed update of the draft 2021 Sporting, Technical and Financial Regulations, giving it the information needed for an e-vote, which will be held in order for the regulations to be published by October 31.
