#F1 #BrazilGP: @OscarPiastri pips @LandoNorris to #SaoPauloGP #F1Sprint pole.
Piastri Brazil Sprint Pole – Oscar Piastri pipped team-mate Lando Norris on his final flyer to take pole position for tomorrow’s 100km F1 Sprint at the Brazil GP as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the top three. Championship leader Max Verstappen crucially takes fourth for Red Bull.
In SQ3, both McLaren drivers and Williams’ Alexander Albon went out early and were going for two timed-runs as Piastri set three personal bests to set a 1:09.225 meanwhile team-mate Norris went even faster posting purple three sectors to set a 1:08.928 to pip the Australian by 0.297 seconds.
Everyone else headed out for just one flyer as Leclerc set two personal bests and a purple sector three to jump into second place behind Norris.
Sainz then slotted into third behind team-mate Leclerc as Piastri posted the quickest middle sector and two personal bests to set a 1:08.899 and pipped McLaren team-mate Norris to the Sprint pole by a slim 0.029 seconds.
Norris aborted his final hot-lap and returned to the pits.
Championship leader Verstappen set three personal bests to split the Ferrari’s and line-up on the second row of the grid alongside Leclerc.
Sainz was demoted to fifth as Mercedes’ George Russell moved up to sixth on his sole flying lap.
BWT Alpine F1 Team’s Pierre Gasly took an impressive seventh and in-front of RB’s Liam Lawson who was eighth as Williams’ Alexander Albon and MoneyGram Haas F1 Team’s Oliver Bearman rounded out the top ten.
Bearman made a mess on his only flyer and had his lap time invalidated.
In SQ2, which was topped by Norris, a late improvement from Mercedes’ Sir Lewis Hamilton was only good enough for P11 for tomorrow’s F1 Sprint and missed out on SQ3 by a slim 0.097 seconds.
MoneyGram Haas F1 Team’s Nico Hulkenberg qualified 12th on the grid and in-front of Red Bull’s Sergio Perez who wound up 13th whilst Williams’ Franco Colapinto and Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas were 14th and 15th respectively.
In SQ1, which was topped by Norris, a flurry of improvements including a late flyer from Colapinto sent Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso out of the first segment in 16th by 0.117 seconds.
BWT Alpine’s Esteban Ocon took 17th and in-front of RB’s Yuki Tsunoda who was eliminated in 18th as the other Aston Martin AMR24 entry of Lance Stroll and Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu brought up the rear.

“Yeah, it was a tricky session but I’m happy to have qualified on pole. My first lap didn’t feel amazing so I knew I could improve, and my second lap felt good, and the tyres held on. I’ll try and win but we’ll see.”
