#F1 cars set to hit the 2018 #AdelaideMotorsportFestival this weekend
Formula 1 cars are set to return to the legendary Adelaide street circuit for the Victoria Park Sprint at this weekend’s fifth edition of the Motorsport Festival from December 1-2.
The five-day Motorsport Festival celebrates motoring and motorsports like no other combining the Adelaide Rally and the Victoria Park Sprint, which is held on the shortened version of the famous Adelaide Street Circuit once used for the Australian Formula One Grand Prix from 1985-1995 and now currently for the Superloop Adelaide 500.
Eight cars from the Adelaide Grand Prix era are set to headline the fifth running of the event including the 1350bhp Benetton B186 driven by Supercars Tickford Racing driver Cameron Waters and the Adrian Newey-designed Leyton House CG891 driven by the returning Ivan Capelli. Will the latter reclaim the track record from Tim Slade?
Other Adelaide Grand Prix-era cars returning to this year’s edition include the ex-Christian Fittipaldi 1994 Footwork Arrows FA15, a 1988 ex-Philippe Alliot Lola Larrousse LC88 and an ex-Andrea De Cesaris 1989 BMS Scuderia Italia Dallara F189.
The newest additions from the Adelaide Grand Prix-era coming to this year’s festival are an ex-Teo Fabi Toleman TG185 (1985), an ex-Yannick Dalmas Lola Larrousse LC87 (1987) and an ex Eddie Cheever Arrows A10 (1988).
One 3L V10 era car will once again be at the event in the 2000 ex-Jos Verstappen Arrows A21, which will be driven by Josh Kean.
Other pre-1970 Formula 1 cars debuting at the event includes the first ever Lotus to race in Formula One (The 12 once driven by Graham Hill). an ex-Jack Brabham Cooper T51 (The car Brabham took to his first of three world titles), Cooper Climax T51 & T53 and an ex-Mario Andretti March 701.
Famous drivers taking part in the Peak Hour of Power on Friday evening which sees the cars drive down from Victoria Park to the Gouger Street Party are Ivan Capelli, David Brabham, Craig Lowndes, John Bowe, Jim Richards, Alister McRae, Tim Slade, Todd Hazelwood and Josh Kean.

Le Mans Legends
To celebrate Porsche’s 70th Anniversary, two legendary Le Mans Porsche Prototypes will also be another major headline at the event including the 1988 Joest Racing Blaupunkt 962 and the 1989 Brun Motorsport Hydro Aluminum 962.
Other special attractions for the weekend
- Australia’s answer to IndyCar, the new Super 5000 Ligier JS3-5000 powered by a 5L Ford Quad Coyote V8 engine, which will be driven by Tim Macrow.
- Brabham celebration, with David Brabham driving the BT62 Supercar and legendary Brabham machinery.
- The Holy Trinity: The Ferrari LaFerrari to be driven by Craig Lowndes, the McLaren P1 driven by John Bowe and the Porsche 918 piloted by Jim Richards.
- Winged Warriors: Red Bull Air Race pilot Matt Hall will go up against Ivan Capelli in the Leyton House, Jim Richards in a Porsche GT2 RS and David Brabham in the Brabham BT62 in a standing start drag race, which is set to be a cracker.
- British Rally Champion Alister McRae will be driving his 1993 World Rally Championship Subaru Impreza 555 headlining the legendary rally field.
- An American Muscle-Car Shootout featuring the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and a Ford Mustang.
- The Isle of Man TT 1987-winning 1987 JPS Norton RC588 headlining the classic bikes running at the event.
