Norris Dutch GP FP2 – Lando Norris topped the second practice session at the Dutch GP ahead of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso who split the McLaren duo in second as championship leader Oscar Piastri completed the top three.

In a session when rain was expected – but managed to remain away from the circuit – Norris who won the Hungarian GP last time out before the sport’s summer break, posted the session-topping benchmark with the C4 red-marked softer tyres with a 1:09.890 and was a slim 0.087 seconds quicker than Alonso whilst Piastri was a further 0.089 seconds off in third.
RB’s Liam Lawson lead the pack out onto the Circuit Zandvoort with a set of the C2 white side-walled harder compounds as the majority emerged on a mix of the C3 mediums and hards.
Lawson was the first to register a hot-lap time of a 1:17.854, which was quickly beaten by Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto who slotted in P1 and P2 respectively.
Norris then hit the top with his mediums on a 1:12.615 as Williams’ Carlos Sainz moved up into second with a 1:13.456 to go second as Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll jumped to fourth and was 1.163 seconds off the former’s benchmark.
Sainz improved to take top spot on a 1:12.564 to be 0.051 seconds quicker than Norris as Alpine’s Franco Colapinto took third.
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso on his C3’s planted a 1:12.131 to take P1 only briefly as Norris improved to take a 1:11.294 with three purple sectors.
Stroll then demoted his team-mate to third with his 1:111.975, but this was beaten by both Sauber’s who were on the C4 softs as Hulkenberg with three personal bests moved up into third and Bortoleto in second and only 0.026 seconds adrift of Norris’s benchmark.
Verstappen slotted into fourth with his C2’s posting a 1:11.572 and was 0.278 seconds off Norris’s effort.
Haas’s Oliver Bearman with two purples on the softs jumped to the top of the pile setting a 1:11.113 to be 0.181 seconds clear of Norris just past the 11th minute mark of the hour-long session.
Aston Martin’s Stroll suffered a heavy shunt as the cameras showed the stranded AMR25 on the banked corner at turn three bringing out the red flag.
Replays showed the Canadian carried so much speed as he took a high-line into the corner, locked up and went straight into the barriers and destroying the front and rear wings and the right side of the AMR25 racer.
After Stroll’s AMR25 racer was cleared and the session resumed with 38 minutes remaining, none of the drivers emerged out immediately.
Home favourite Verstappen then was the first to hit the track on the C2 white-branded harder compound.
A yellow flag was brought out after RB’s Isack Hadjar stopped at turn eight reporting on the radio having “no power.”
The virtual safety car was deployed for the Frenchman’s VCARB02 racer to be cleared.
With 30 minutes and 33 seconds left on the clock and Hadjar’s car was cleared, Williams’s Alexander Albon moved up into eighth to be 0.643 adrift of Bearman’s benchmark.
Hulkenberg was next on his C4’s flyer and two purple final sectors to go fastest on a 1:11.080 and was 0.033 seconds clear of Bearman.
Cameras quickly shot to Ferrari’s Sir Lewis Hamilton suffering another spin like in FP1.
Replays showed the seven-time world champion suffer oversteer at turn nine and ran over a bit of grass and lost the rear of his SF-25 racer.
Aston Martin’s Alonso posted three purples to take a solid 1:09.977 and the quickest time, but Norris then with two personal bests and purple sector three snatched top spot with a 1:09.890 to go a slim 0.087 seconds quicker than the Spaniard.
Mercedes’ George Russell with three personal bests jumped to third to be 0.384 seconds off as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc moved up into fourth then was ousted by team-mate Hamilton’s 1:10.738.
Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda then split Hamilton and Leclerc in seventh whilst Piastri jumped into third to go 0.089 seconds adrift of team-mate Norris’s benchmark.
The red flags were brought out once more with 21 minutes remaining after Williams’ Albon suffered a lock-up into Tarzan and crashed into the barrier damaging his front wing.
The Thai-Briton driver tried to reverse his way out of the run-off to continue on but then got beached into the gravel trap and got stuck.
During the red flag as the drivers were returning to the pit-lane and their respective garages – there was a bit of chaos as Piastri, who was made to pull into the first slot at McLaren, only to be waved into the second slow. The Australian pulled back out, into the path of Russell’s F1 W16, who was unimpressed.
The incident between Piastri and Russell is currently under investigation by the stewards.
With 16 minutes left on the clock and Albon’s FW47 racer was cleared, the two Sauber’s of Bortoleto and Hulkenberg were the first to come out on track with the C3 mediums.
The two Sauber’s were on higher fuel runs as RB’s Lawson moved to 13th to wound up 1.449 seconds off as Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli jumped to 11th and was 1.295 seconds off Norris’s benchmark effort.
Both Lawson and Antonelli were running out of sync with the others on track with their qualifying simulation efforts.
The majority of the drivers then were running practice starts out of the pit-lane and doing their traditional long race data gathering runs as the session remained rain-free throughout.
In the final two minutes of the session, championship leader Piastri had a scary moment through turn 9. The wind was playing havoc out there at Zandvoort, but it looked like Piastri just carried too much speed, running a touch wide and kicked up some dirt.
The session ended with Norris quickest once more ahead of Alonso as Piastri completed the top three.
Russell followed in fourth and ahead of home favourite Verstappen who took fifth.
Tsunoda in the second Red Bull split the Ferrari’s of Hamilton and Leclerc taking sixth.
Alpine’s Colapinto and Sauber’s Hulkenberg rounded out the top ten.
