This was Verstappen’s 44th-career pole position and his first since the Miami Grand Prix.

In Q3, the initial flyers saw Bearman the first with a 1:25.899, which was quickly beaten by Verstappen’s 1:25.267 and this was beaten by Piastri’s 1:24.995 to take provisional pole.

Norris slotted into P2 behind his team-mate and 0.172 seconds off as Leclerc moved into fifth.

Hamilton jumped into second place behind Piastri to go 0.135 seconds off with his 1:25.130 effort.

The final hot-laps saw Russell slot into P2 but was short-lived as Norris lost time in the final sector but still snatched second place off his fellow British-compatriot.

Piastri also could not improved after suffering a snap of oversteer out of the final corner and remained on top as both Hamilton and Leclerc wounded up fifth and sixth.

Verstappen stole the show with two purple sectors to take pole position with a 1:24.892 by 0.103 seconds from Piastri.

Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli was next in seventh but will drop three places back due to his penalty from his opening lap incident with Verstappen in Austria and potentially more due to failing to follow race director’s instructions by running slow in Q2.

Haas’s Oliver Bearman was next and ended up eighth but will be hit with a ten grid-placed-penalty for his home Grand Prix due to the red flag infringement in FP3.

Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly completed the top ten.

In the second qualifying stage, which was topped by Hamilton, after a late improvement from Antonelli, Williams’s Carlos Sainz missed out on a Q3 appearance by a slim 0.035 seconds as the Spaniard ends up 11th.

Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda placed 12th and in-front of RB’s Isack Hadjar who reached 13th and the other Williams FW47 entry of Alexander Albon who took 14th whilst Haas’s Esteban Ocon was the slowest of the Q2 runners in 15th.

In the opening segment, which was topped by Verstappen, a red flag was brought out with six minutes and 54 seconds after Alpine’s Franco Colapinto suffered a spin out of the final corner after taking too much kerb and hit the wall damaging the right side of his end-plate on the front wing and the rear wing and the Argentine slowly travelled with a heavily shaking rear wing and pulled off into the run-off area at turn one.

After Colapinto’s car was cleared, the action resumed, and the winds picked up with some spots of rain.

At the end a late improvement for Gasly sent RB’s Liam Lawson into P16 and the quickest of the Q1 eliminatees and in-front of Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto who took 17th and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll who was a low-18th.

The other Sauber of Nico Hulkenberg and the aforementioned Colapinto brought up the rear.

Leclerc was currently under investigation by the race stewards for a yellow flag infringement.

2025 British GP Pole Position – Max Verstappen, #1, Oracle Red Bull Racing, Honda-RBPT, RB21 – 1:24.892:

“It was tricky out there with the wind, it was all shifting around a bit and around here with these cars, it is extremely sensitive to it. This is a proper track, when you have to go flat out you have to be super committed. We are quite quick on the straight, we have to wait and see what tomorrow will do but I am happy – it is a big boost for the team and excited to go racing tomorrow. We are going to go racing, we are going to have fun, and we are going to do the best we can.”

2nd Place – Oscar Piastri, #81, McLaren Formula 1 Team, Mercedes, MCL39 – +0.103s:

“I was happy with the first lap; the first lap was mega to be honest. The last lap was a little bit messy, but it has been tight all weekend. A little bit [left] on the table but we will never know if it would have been enough. It can be an exciting race from there tomorrow. It’s been very evenly matched between us, Max, the Ferraris, George got up there as well. It will be an evenly paced race tomorrow – it is going to be a fun one.”

3rd Place – Lando Norris, #4, McLaren Formula 1 Team, Mercedes, MCL39 – +0.118s:

“Good Qualifying, I’m not going to be unhappy with a third. I would love to be on top at Silverstone, but Max did a good job today. Little things today put you ahead or behind. Little margins, little mistakes can win or lose you the game today. It was tough in the conditions with the rain as well, but I think it is going to be fun tomorrow.”
