F1 set to return to Adelaide for fourth Motorsport Festival
Formula 1 machinery returns to Adelaide this weekend for the fourth edition of the Adelaide Motorsport Festival from December 7-10.
The five-day Motorsport Festival celebrates motoring and motorsports like no other combining the Adelaide Rally and the Victoria Park Sprint, which is held on the shortened version of the famous Adelaide Street Circuit once used for the Australian Formula One Grand Prix from 1985-1995 and now currently for the Adelaide 500.
Among the headlining machinery that will take to the track this weekend includes the Arrows A21 raced by Jos Verstappen in the 2000 season, ex-1980 Formula One World Champion Alan Jones’ Williams FW07B, ex-Gerhard Berger 1986 Benetton-BMW B186 and the ex-Christian Fittipaldi 1994 Footwork Arrows FA15.
Three Adelaide Grand Prix-era cars debut at this year’s event including the aforementioned 1994 Footwork Arrows FA15, a 1988 ex-Philippe Alliot Lola Larrousse LC88 and an ex-Andrea De Cesaris 1989 BMS Scuderia Italia Dallara F189 alongside the returning most powerful F1 car ever made, the 1350bhp straight-four turbo-powered Benetton-BMW B186.
The other pre-1980 Formula 1 cars debuting at the event includes ex-1970 March 701 once raced by 1978 World Champion Mario Andretti, an ex-1974 March 741 once raced by Hans-Joachim Stuck and a 1979 Candy 009/B Ford-Cosworth V8 once driven by Derek Daly.
Supercars race winners such as Craig Lowndes, John Bowe, Cameron Waters and Tim Slade are amongst the drivers of the F1 machinery and will take part in Friday evening Gouger Street Party which sees the cars being driven in peak-hour traffic before various runnings at the Adelaide Parklands Street Circuit over Saturday and Sunday December 9-10.

The FA15 will be driven by Super2 driver Josh Kean while the WTF86 will be driven by Tim Slade. Who will win? The answer seems obvious but we’ll see.
Also will the 800bhp V10-powered 18,000rpm Arrows A21 driven by Josh Kean beat the Victoria Park Sprint lap record currently held by Ivan Capelli in his 1989 Leyton House March CG891 with a 43.28 seconds be beaten?
