Antonelli Miami Sprint Pole – Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli scored his maiden Sprint pole position at the Miami GP ahead of McLaren pairing Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
In SQ3, the initial flyers saw Verstappen register the first lap with a 1:27.070 but was quickly ousted by Mercedes’ Russell who posted a 1:26.791 to be on top by 0.279 seconds.
The other eight drivers left it to just one hot-lap.
Williams’s Albon and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso slotted in P3 and P4 as Ferrari’s Sir Lewis Hamilton moved into second with a 1:27.070.
Verstappen pipped Russell to move up into provisional pole as Mercedes’ Antonelli with a personal bests and two purples to post a solid 1:26.482 to clinch pole position for the Sprint by a slim 0.045 seconds over McLaren’s Piastri and Norris who was a further 0.100 seconds adrift in third.
Verstappen was relegated to fourth as a result of Piastri and Norris’s improvements as Russell took fifth.
The Ferrari duo followed as Charles Leclerc and Hamilton will start the Sprint in sixth and seventh respectively.
Williams’ Albon was eighth as RB’s Hadjar and Aston Martin’s Alonso completed the top ten.
In SQ2, which was topped by Norris, a flurry of late improvements saw Albon send Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg down into 11th place on the grid for the Sprint.
MoneyGram Haas F1 Team’s Esteban Ocon was 12th and in-front of Alpine’s Pierre Gasly who took 13th.
RB’s Liam Lawson could only improve on his flyer to 14th as Williams’ Carlos Sainz suffered a massive lock-up into the turn 10 run-off and had to abort his hot lap and wounded up 15th.
In SQ1, which was topped by Russell, Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll was unable to improve on his flyer to start the Miami GP Sprint in 16th and in-front of Alpine’s Jack Doohan who qualified 17th and Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda who placed 18th.
Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto and MoneyGram Haas F1 Team’s Oliver Bearman brought up the rear.
