McLaren have launched it’s challenger that will compete in the 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season, the MCL35 at the team’s home base, the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, UK.
Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris, who will enter their second season with the Woking-based outfit, presented their new machine ahead of taking it to the track for the first time during Formula 1’s pre-season test at the Circuit De Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain next week.
McLaren set to work on it’s MCL35 racer, which is powered by Renault’s E-Tech 20 1.6L Turbocharged V6 power-train, during the course of last season as the Woking squad pursued it’s first phase of it’s performance recovery programme.
The 2019 campaign saw McLaren finish fourth in the World Constructors Championship standings (With Sainz scoring the team’s first podium in Brazil since the 2014 season-opening Australian Grand Prix where Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button came second and third respectively) and gave valuable insights into it’s MCL35 successor, in what will be an intensely competitive 2020 World Championship season before the major sweep of rule changes for 2021.
The MCL35 continues on with it’s traditional striking papaya orange and blue, the original colours chosen by team founder Bruce McLaren, and represents the team’s 57 years in Formula 1.
McLaren’s positive commercial trend continues to rise, with eight new sponsors for 2020, reaching 38 partners in total.
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown commented:
“I’m immensely proud of the entire team today,” explained McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown. “Last season we delivered what we set out to do – secure a hard-fought fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. Our positive on-track momentum and the renewed energy in the team has seen us grow our valued partner family and global fan base and we look forward to a hugely competitive season. While we are enjoying going racing again, we remain measured and focused, and all of us at McLaren keep pushing fearlessly forward.” Brown concluded. Credit to McLaren for the quote.
