@RedBullRacing unleash the #RB18, new title-sponsor @Oracle. #F1
Red Bull RB18 – Oracle Red Bull Racing teamed up with fans to launch their new RB18 for the 2022 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season, which took place at the Red Bull Racing Technology Campus in the Milton Keynes along with the unveiling of new title-sponsor Oracle.
Newly-crowned World Champion Max Verstappen will drive with the number one on his car for his title-defence and teams with Mexican Sergio Perez returning for a second campaign with the Milton Keynes based-squad.
Verstappen drove the V8-powered RB7 around the Campus to begin the launch, the first time one of their cars were driven around Milton Keynes since 2011.
Whilst the car on display featured the team’s latest livery, which included more exposure for title-sponsor Oracle, Red Bull opted to keep it’s technical secrets behind closed doors for now.
The RB18 looked to be an upgraded version of the Formula One Management concept version released last year.
Whilst the front and rear wing looked different from it’s FOM counterpart, and much of the car the same – suggested the Anglo-Austrian outfit did not wish to show it’s true version just yet.
Speaking on the upcoming season, defending World Champion Verstappen explained:
“I’m feeling recharged and ready to get driving again, I feel good and it’s important that you prepare yourself in the best way possible physically, particularly when things are changing with the shakeup in regulations,”
“In terms of the car, we don’t know what to fully expect so I’m excited to see how the car behaves on the track for the first time. The biggest adaptation this season will be the new regulations, we’ll need some time to get used to the car, it is not like you just jump in and it’s an upgrade from last year. The rest is pretty straightforward, I don’t feel any extra pressure this season, I will just do what I do all the time because I don’t think there is any reason to be different. Now I just I can’t wait for that first moment when I drive out of the pitlane in the RB18.” Verstappen concluded. Credit to Red Bull Racing for the quote.
Ready for his second season with Red Bull Perez added:
“I am so excited to start the new season and I cannot wait to be on track with the new RB18. All of us on the grid are starting from zero this season so it is set to be an exciting year. Last year, we gave it our all until the very last lap and we are ready to do the same in 2022,”
“The new regulations are said to improve the competition on track, so I hope that for us as drivers we can compete more, race more and follow each other more closely. There will be a lot of things we need to learn and adapt to but these new regulations are set to make everything very interesting. One thing I can’t wait for this season is to see more fans back at the track, Formula One is growing so much all over the world so I can’t wait to feel that atmosphere again. I hope that we can give the fans great entertainment and great racing.” Perez concluded. Credit to Red Bull for the quote.
With Japanese manufacturer Honda pulling out of the sport for financial reasons, Red Bull Racing will continue to be powered by the same power-trains following a new deal.
As it looked to it’s future ahead, Red Bull created it’s own Power-Train department to build it’s own engines.
However in the short-term, Honda will continue to prepare it’s power-trains from it’s Japanese headquarters.
Whilst the RB18 featured no Honda decals, it does feature the Honda Racing Corporation division’s branding.
Red Bull Racing is coming off it’s most successful campaign since the 1.6L V6 Turbocharged Hybrid Era began in 2014 as it pushed Mercedes to their limits all the way to the finale in Abu Dhabi.
While it’s rival secured it’s eighth-consecutive World Constructors Championship, Verstappen’s last lap lunge over Lewis Hamilton was enough to claim victory and his maiden World Driver’s Championship title.
Verstappen’s championship was the first for the Milton Keynes based-squad since Sebastian Vettel’s triumph.
The RB18 will be put through it’s paces for the first time during Formula One’s first pre-season test at the Circuit De Barcelona-Catalunya from Wednesday February 23-Friday February 25.
Red Bull unveil new title-sponsor Oracle
Oracle and Red Bull Racing enhanced their partnership by uniting their new name as Oracle Red Bull Racing, along with the unveiling of the RB18.
Building on last year’s World Driver’s Championship success, the Milton Keynes-based outfit for this season will feature expanded use of Oracle Cloud across it’s major areas of operation including analytics-based race strategy, optimised engine development, AI and machine learning-powered driver training and a tailored fan experience.
Oracle Red Bull Racing Team Principal and CEO Christian Horner explained:
“Oracle Cloud enabled us to make race-day decisions that helped Max Verstappen win the 2021 Drivers’ Championship. Discovering and reacting to opportunities quickly, is crucial to our success on and off the track, and Oracle is integral in that effort. Every element of our performance is driven by data analysis. Having Oracle as our title partner shows the confidence we have in their expertise and their ability to deliver a true competitive advantage.” Horner concluded. Credit to Red Bull for the quote.
The Anglo-Austrian squad took advantage of the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) during last year’s championship campaign, increasing the number of simulations they ran by 1000 times to improve the accuracy of their decision making and predictions.
In addition, they accelerated their simulation speed by 10x, which gave their race strategists more time to make the right call.
The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure significantly reduced the cost of billions of simulations, allowing Red Bull to cost-effectively improve it’s performance on the track, which is crucial under F1’s spending regulations.
This season, the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure will enable Red Bull to expand it’s volume and variety of data they analyse and increase the speeds that their simulations run in order to predict tactics that will lead the team to race victories and podiums.
Along with it’s innovative on-track initiatives, Oracle Red Bull Racing will continue to give an exceptional experience to it’s loyal global fan-base.
Last year, Oracle and Red Bull Racing launched a platform, the very first of it’s kind – The Red Bull Racing Paddock – powered by OCI, to bring excitement to Red Bull fans globally.
Since The Paddock’s inception, Red Bull Racing has seen an increase in more than 900 sign-ups for memberships with the new, direct line of communication between the fans and team creating amazing engagement, as fans submitted thousands of questions to the team and redeemed 35,000 digital rewards.
This season, Oracle Red Bull Racing will incorporate new features such as the ability to create user content, to bring even more personalisation to fans.
Oracle Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Ariel Kelman said:
“Red Bull Racing has been more committed than any other F1 team in its use of technology to gain an edge, and it is paying off. Our commitment to this partnership reflects our belief that OCI is a strategic weapon on race day, helps create the most exciting fan experience in sports, and can define the future of F1. Oracle Red Bull Racing is, and will continue to be, the most forward-thinking and innovative F1 team in the world.” Kelman concluded. Credit to Red Bull for the quote.
Oracle is working with Red Bull Powertrains to develop the next generation of engines set to debut in the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship season as Red Bull Racing becomes one of the four manufacturers supplying engines in the sport.
Red Bull Powertrains will use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to optimise the modelling of it’s new engine combustion chamber to reduce costs whilst improving results.
Red Bull Advanced Technologies and Oracle are also partnering to help develop the next generation of it’s drivers. Through AI and machine learning.
Red Bull’s academy drivers will better understand how data can help fine-tune their driving style to reduce their lap times.
