Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow have released their stunning red and black 2019 contender, the SF90 to the world at the team’s Fiorano test track in Maranello, Italy.

Last year was the outfit’s best showing in the 1.6L V6 turbocharged hybrid era and now are aiming to go one step better with their new SF90, the car that they hope will bring the titles back home to Maranello in 2019.

Ferrari features a new driver line up with four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel partnering the talented Charles Leclerc, along with a new Team Principal in Mattia Binotto who has been with the Maranello squad since 1995. Binotto was promoted from his role as Chief Technical Officer to replace Maurizio Arrivabene.

Leclerc is set to become the youngest driver to race for the Scuderia since Mexican Pedro Rodriguez after an impressive rookie season with the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team where he scored 39 points and finished 13th in the driver’s standings. The Monegasque youngster replaces Kimi Raikkonen. Leclerc will partner Vettel who will be looking to equal Lewis Hamilton’s five World Championship crowns this campaign by clinching his first title since 2013.

“I’m extremely excited to start this new adventure,” explained Leclerc. “It’s a dream since childhood: I’ve always been looking at the red car hoping to one day be in it. So it’s a very emotional day for me,”

“I’ve also been part of the Ferrari driver academy for some years now and that’s helped me to develop massively as a driver with the final goal to have this seat, which is now happening.” Leclerc concluded.

Should the trio of Vettel, Leclerc and Binotto combine to raise the Prancing Horse’s performance to a new level, their rivals should be concerned, especially after Ferrari had a strong 2018 where they outshone Mercedes at some circuits – and although their performances fell just short to the Silver Arrows.

“Starting in 2018, we got really good achievements,” explained Binotto at the launch of the new SF90. “This car is a development of last year’s car, it’s not a revolution. We’ve tried to push the bar, try to be some extreme as we could,”

“Some changes like the front wing for the regulations. If you look at the details, we’ve tried to push hard, be innovative. If you look at the bodywork at the back, it’s very slim. It’s thanks to the entire job we’ve done. A lot of effort has been done. We like it.” Binotto concluded.

Vettel echoed his colleague’s comments.

“We’re all excited,” said Vettel. “You start to see the car, little bits of it at the end of last year and then you see it come together but today is the first time you see it. I’m very excited – it’s incredible to see when everything gets together. Now I’m excited, I can’t wait to get in.”

The Maranello-based outfit will now head to the Circuit De Barcelona-Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain where the first pre-season test will begin Monday February 18.
