TermiOnTrack F1 News – Vale Sir Stirling Moss 1929-2020
We start off TermiOnTrack F1 News with the announcement that took place on Easter Sunday morning in the United Kingdom that Formula 1 icon Sir Stirling Moss sadly passed away aged 90.
The Formula 1 legend, often known as the greatest to never win a Formula 1 World Championship crown, raced in 66 Grands Prix between 1951 and 1961, driving for teams like Vanwall, Mercedes, Maserati and Lotus.
He famously formed a ruthlessly strong partnership with lead driver Juan Manuel Fangio at the Silver Arrows.
In his 10-year career, Moss scored 16 victories and 24 podiums, with some of his iconic drives ranked high in Formula 1 history, particularly the 1961 wins in Monaco and Germany.
Moss was also regarded as one of the best sports car drivers, famously winning the 1955 Mille Miglia driving a Mercedes as well as the 1955 Targa Florio.
Following an enforced retirement (have a brief spell return in saloon cars in the 1980’s) after his 1962 crash at Goodwood, Moss maintained his presence in the world of Formula 1, both as a correspondent and observer, before moving out of the public spotlight in 2018.
Sir Stirling Moss is survived by his Lady Susie and Sir Stirling’s family and friends.
Our thoughts and prayers are with them all during this most difficult time.
Vale Sir Stirling Moss, you’ll never ever be forgotten and you’re always a lap ahead of us.

TermiOnTrack F1 News – Brawn says F1 will come out of coronavirus pandemic stronger
The coronavirus crisis has caused destruction with sporting calendars, but Formula 1’s Ross Brawn is hopeful that the sport will learn important lessons from the challenging times so the championship returns stronger and more sustainable.
Canada was the ninth Grand Prix to be postponed or cancelled, meaning Formula 1 won’t return until late June if the situation improves. Brawn suggested that a 19-race calendar is still possible, but behind closed doors.
F1 bosses moved to help reduce the costs and protect teams, including extending the shutdown period for another two weeks with Haas, McLaren, Racing Point, Renault and Williams placing some of their staff on furlough with some drivers and senior team figures taking a reduction in salary.
Finances were the main talking point during a a conference call between all teams, F1 and sport governing body, the FIA last week on Monday, with the focus on the cost cap, set to be introduced next year, It was set at $175 million, a figure that F1, FIA and the teams were hoping would be lower.
Brawn hopes the pain caused by COVID-19, which is straining the sport financially, will help all parties reach an agreement to reduce the figure and make it more sustainable in the future.
“Perhaps this is a time for a reset and a time to say, ‘look, in the good times F1 operated at a certain level, now is the time to take a view on that and decide we need a reset in terms of the cost and the best things that are needed for F1’,” Brawn explained to Sky Sports.”
“We have fought hard to get to where we got to with the budget cap at $175million for the year. It was higher than we wanted but that was the equilibrium we could find with all the teams. I won’t pretend that was ideal, it was not what we wanted but that was where it was.”
“The COVID crisis has created an opportunity for people to take a second look at what is a realistic and sensible level of a budget cap and it has allowed us to renegotiate again with extra determination and extra commitment.”
“It is a statement that this is what we told you the budget cap was for. When we have this crisis, we can turn the dial down. We said that when it was introduced. We’re here sooner than anyone wanted. We’re here now. It would be irresponsible to ignore it.”
“We all have to re-adjust to these new levels. It’s going to be painful, but the sport is going to have a future. I think we will come out of it in a much stronger place once we get through this.” Brawn concluded. Credit to SkySports F1 for the quote.
