Verstappen US GP Pole – Red Bull’s Max Verstappen scored his 47th-career pole position in qualifying at the US GP ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who were second and third respectively. Championship leader Oscar Piastri was down in sixth for McLaren.

In Q3, the initial flying tours saw Haas’s Oliver Bearman the first to register his effort of a 1:33.139, and Piastri slotted into second with his 1:33.475 whilst Mercedes’ George Russell shot to the top with a 1:32.959 to be 0.155 clear of team-mate Andrea Kimi Antonelli who slotted into second.
Williams’ Carlos Sainz ended up fourth with his 1:33.300 whilst Norris with three personal bests hit P1 with a 1:32.904 to go 0.055 clear of Russell.
Verstappen blasted to provisional pole with three purple sectors to set a 1:32.510 to go 0.394 seconds faster than Norris.
The final hot-laps saw Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who suffered a spin out the final corner and abandoned his initial flying lap – post a 1:32.807 to go second and 0.297 seconds off Verstappen.
Sir Lewis Hamilton was next and put his Ferrari fourth as Russell on his final flyer ended up third and 0.316 adrift of Verstappen’s benchmark.
Norris on his last hot-lap jumped to second to be 0.291 seconds off of Verstappen for the Dutchman to secure his pole position.
World Drivers’ Championship leader Piastri ended up down in sixth with his 1:33.084 effort to be 0.574 adrift as Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli was seventh and in-front of Haas’s Oliver Bearman who placed eighth.
Bearman had his initial flyer invalidated for exceeding track limits, but could not improve on his last lap.
Atlassian Williams Racing’s Carlos Sainz and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso completed the top ten.
In the middle segment, which was topped by Verstappen, Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg was unable to improve on his final flying lap as the German qualified in 11th.
RB’s Liam Lawson took 12th and in-front of Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda who placed 13th in the classification as Alpine pairing Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto were the slowest of the Q2 runners in 14th and 15th respectively.
In the opening qualifying stage, which was topped by Verstappen, the first red flag of the session at the 15th minute-mark was for RB’s Isack Hadjar who suffered a shunt at turn six.
Replays showed the Frenchman suffered a spin through the Esses from the rear and crashed front on into the barriers destroying his front and rear wings and the right side of his VCARB02 racer.
After the nine-minute delay and Hadjar’s VCARB02 was cleared, a flurry of late improvements saw Albon’s best lap-time, which originally had him eighth was deleted for exceeding track limits at turn 15 meaning the Thai-Briton qualified 19th meaning Alpine’s Colapinto survived a Q1 exit.
Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto ended up 16th and in-front of Haas’s Esteban Ocon who was 17th.
Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll also had his lap-time invalidated for leaving the track at the exit of turn 12 with the Canadian wounding up 18th. However, following with a five-grid-placed-penalty after his collision with Ocon in the Sprint – He will start at the rear of the grid for tomorrow’s race.
The aforementioned Hadjar brought up the rear.

2025 US GP Qualifying – The Top Three

2025 US GP Pole Position – Max Verstappen, #1, Oracle Red Bull Racing, Honda-RBPT, RB21 – 1:32.510:
“It was good. I think every segment; the car was very strong. It is very hot, very strong winds as well. We couldn’t do our last run, a very messy out-lap but luckily, we didn’t need it.”
2nd Place – Lando Norris, #4, McLaren Formula 1 Team, Mercedes, MCL39 – 1:32.801:
“I improved by half a tenth, but it was a bit more of a struggle today for whatever reason as yesterday I was quite comfortable. We were both struggling today to put the laps in. I’m happy with P2 – it could have been worse, but there was no chance of pole today. Don’t get hit is my plan for tomorrow!”
3rd Place – Charles Leclerc, #16, Scuderia Ferrari, SF-25 – 1:32.807:
“It was quite a big surprise, considering the weekend that has been very difficult for us. I think there are things we still need to understand from our car, as there is too big a swing in performance in the same weekend when we fundamentally don’t change anything. Our car is normally stronger in the race than qualifying, so that is a positive.”
