Verstappen British GP Pole – Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen pipped McLaren’s Lando Norris to clinch pole position at the British GP as Oscar Piastri completed the top three in the other MCL60 entry.

In Q3, the initial flyers saw Verstappen hold provisional pole setting a purple in all three sectors and posting a 1:27.084 benchmark and was 0.633 seconds quicker than Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton as McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was a further 0.672 adrift of the Dutchman in third.
But Verstappen’s pole time looked up for grabs, although Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc set a purple in sector one, he was unable to maintain enough momentum to jump the Dutchman with his effort.
The other SF-23 entry of Carlos Sainz also could not make the difference and wound up behind Leclerc, whilst Mercedes’ George Russell and Hamilton were also unable to improve and settled in behind the Ferrari drivers.
But Norris sent the British crowd into a massive applause having flown across the line with a 1:26.891, moving into provisional pole, but his chance of a pole position at home were dashed as Verstappen made a late improvement to pip the Briton.
Nevertheless, Norris scored a place on the front row with a much-improved McLaren MCL60, and his team-mate Piastri added extra joy to the Woking based-outfit with third place after jumping ahead of Leclerc.
Leclerc qualified ahead of team-mate Sainz, whilst Russell outqualified Hamilton to take sixth for Sunday’s British Grand Prix.
Williams Racing’s Alexander Albon clinched eighth place on the grid, in a very-improved FW45 during the team’s 799th Grand Prix weekend.
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly rounded out the top ten.
In the second segment, which was topped by Verstappen, Haas F1 Team’s Nico Hulkenberg missed out on a Q3 appearance by 0.114 seconds and wound up outside the top ten in 11th place and in-front of Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll who was 12th.
BWT Alpine F1 Team’s Esteban Ocon ended qualifying in 13th and ahead of Williams Racing’s Logan Sargeant who took 14th and Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas who placed 15th and was unable to run during the session after coming to a halt due to a power unit issue at the end of Q1.
In the opening qualifying stage, which was topped by Norris, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez was the shock eliminatee in Q1 by 0.019 seconds following a flurry of improvements in lap times and starts 16th on the grid and in-front of AlphaTauri duo Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck de Vries who were 17th and 19th respectively as Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu split the duo in 18th.
Haas F1 Team’s Kevin Magnussen brought up the rear with the Dane bringing out the red flag with three minutes and eleven seconds remaining after coming to a halt on track due to a mechanical issue.
