Norris Hungarian GP FP1 – Lando Norris lead from team-mate Oscar Piastri in a McLaren one-two in FP1 at the Hungarian GP whilst Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the top three.

Norris posted the session-topping benchmark on the C5 red-marked softer tyre with a 1:16.052 and was a slim 0.019 seconds clear of Piastri whilst Leclerc was a further 0.217 seconds adrift of the Briton in third.
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso missed the opening practice session due to a muscular injury as reserve Felipe Drugovich took his place and Paul Aron stepped in Nico Hulkenberg’s C45 also for FP1.
Ferrari’s Sir Lewis Hamilton was the first to lead the pack out on the C4 yellow-marked harder compounds.
The drivers all emerged with a mix of the mediums and C3 white side-walled hard tyres.
Hamilton was the first to register the benchmark of a 1:20.101 as Haas’s Esteban Ocon slotted into second with a 1:20.641 as Oliver Bearman placed his VF-25 on top with a 1:19.694 – but this was temporary as RB’s Isack Hadjar moved to the head of the time-sheets on a 1:19.694.
Piastri them jumped to the top with a 1:19.535 on the mediums as Verstappen slotted into second and was a very narrow 0.001 seconds adrift of the Australian.
Norris with two final purple sectors them snatched P1 with a 1:14.413 to go 0.122 seconds clear of team-mate Piastri as the opening five minutes of proceedings ended.
Mercedes’ George Russell then cruised to top spot with a 1:19.111 and a purple sector two to be 0.302 seconds faster than Norris.
Both Williams of Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon jumped to P2 and P3 respectively to be 0.048 and 0.289 adrift of Russell’s effort respectively whilst both Ocon and Bearman split the McLaren pairing in fifth and sixth of the order.
Leclerc then jumped to the top of the time-sheets briefly with his 1:18.786 but then was pipped by team-mate Hamilton’s 1:18.726 and this was short-lived as Piastri shot to P1 with a 1:18.249.
Noris then blasted to the top with two purple final sectors to post a 1:17.631 to be 0.618 seconds quicker than his team-mate as Verstappen moved up to third to go 0.847 seconds off the Briton.
Leclerc was next with a purple opening sector and two personal bests to slot into second to be 0.438 seconds off Norris whilst Bearman moved into fourth to be a further 0.627 seconds off Norris’s benchmark.
Hadjar followed with three personal bests to split Bearman and Verstappen in fifth place on his hard tyre stint.
Piastri then with a purple sector one to be 0.248 seconds off team-mate Norris in seconds in the opening 15 minutes of the hour-long opening practice session.
Verstappen jumped to fourth with two personal bests to go 0.563 seconds off Norris with his 1:18.194 hot-lap.
Albon was next with three personal bests on the harder tyres to be 0.235 seconds off Norris.
Leclerc at the 20th-minute mark with two purple opening sectors jumped to P1 with a 1:17.420 to go 0.211 seconds faster than Norris.
Sainz then moved to third with three personal bests as Norris reclaimed top spot on a 1:16.837 with two final purple sectors to end up 0.583 seconds clear of Leclerc 23 minutes in.
RB’s Liam Lawson on the C3 harder compounds then moved up into sixth overall to be 1.205 seconds off Norris’s benchmark as the majority returned to the pits.
There was a lull in action before the session’s halfway point as the drivers and teams adjusted their setups before emerging again.
Alpine’s Franco Colapinto was the first to bolt on a set of the C5 red-marked softer tyres.
With 33 minutes remaining Aron pulled over at the turn 13 run-off area due to a power issue.
The virtual safety car was brought out as the C45 was cleared.
When the VSC ended with 30 minutes and 25 seconds on the clock, the drivers began returning to the track on the C5 softs.
Colapinto with three personal bests jumped to sixth setting a 1:17.959 to be 1.122 seconds off Norris’s benchmark.
Leclerc was next with a purple sector one and two personal bests to go quickest with a 1:16.791 as Hamilton slotted into third to be 0.285 seconds off his team-mate whilst Verstappen took fourth and was a further 0.484 seconds adrift of the Ferrari driver.
Albon with three personal bests jumped to third to be 0.193 seconds off Leclerc’s effort as Gabriel Bortoleto put his Sauber in sixth to be 0.861 seconds adrift.
Norris followed with three purple sectors to hit a 1:16.052 to be quickest and a huge 0.739 seconds ahead of Leclerc.
Russell with three personal bests them put his Silver Arrow fifth after being demoted by Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and William’s Albon who slotted into third and fourth respectively.
Piastri on his flying lap on the softs put the Australian P2 after setting a purple opening sector and two personal bests to be 0.142 seconds off team-mate Norris’s benchmark.
Leclerc improved with three personal bests but remained in third to be 0.217 seconds adrift of Norris with 20 minutes remaining.
Hamilton placed his Ferrari into fourth behind his team-mate Leclerc with three personal bests with a 1:16.734 as Hadjar and Verstappen slotted behind the seven-time world champion in fifth and sixth respectively.
With less than 17 minutes left, Russell with two personal bests in the final two sectors jumped to fifth and 0.873 seconds off time-topper Norris’s benchmark.
Piastri on his next flyer with a purple middle sector remained in second to be a slim 0.019 seconds off team-mate Norris on the time-sheets.
Bearman and Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli then jumped to sixth and seventh respectively as Hadjar put his VCARB02 into fourth splitting the two Ferraris with three personal bests on a 1:16.681.
Then there was a lull in action as drivers returned to the mediums and harder tyres to undertake more long race data gathering runs.
The session ended with Norris on top with Piastri second as Leclerc completed the top three.
Hadjar was next in fourth and in-front of Hamilton who took fifth and Bearman who ended FP1 sixth in the classification.
The two Silver Arrows of Antonelli and Russell were seventh and eighth respectively as Verstappen and Stroll rounded out the top ten runners.
Some wild moments happened into turn one during the session with Drugovich, Hamilton and Norris during their soft tyre runs flat spotting their rubber.
