World Champions @RedBullRacing break covers of their 2024 challenger, the #RB20 for the 2024 season. #F1
Red Bull RB20 – World Champions Oracle Red Bull Racing were the tenth and final team to break covers of their 2024 contender, the RB20 in their quest to defend their title crowns for the upcoming campaign.
The RB20 was unveiled at the team’s Milton Keynes base on Thursday with drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez amongst the team personnel on hand as the new challenger was revealed.
There were no surprises as Red Bull continued to carry it’s traditional navy blue livery and whilst the team opted for a more aggressive concept, they are also expecting no big changes in terms of their RB20’s level of performance.
Their predecessor, the RB19, enjoyed a solid amount of success last season, with all but one of the 22 Grand Prix victories to take place during the campaign. Max Verstappen scored 19 of the 22 wins as he secured his third World Driver’s Championship crown in Qatar with several races to spare.
The Dutchman ended 2023 with a 290-point gap over team-mate Sergio Perez whilst this marked the first time in the team’s history that Red Bull finished both first and second in the driver’s standings as the latter hopes for a much stronger season in 2024.
In the World Constructors’ Championship. Red Bull finished a massive 451 points clear over nearest rivals Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team, but with the battle amongst their arch-rivals growing much more closer last year – given that the Silver Arrows just held off Ferrari, whilst McLaren and Aston Martin were also in the fight – the defending world champions won’t be resting easy.
With the RB20 unveiled, Verstappen explained: “It does look a bit different. I think the team definitely pushed on quite a bit from last year and I think that’s very positive. I’m just looking forward to get to Bahrain, start testing and really see what the car is capable of.”
The Dutchman was given his opportunity to test the Honda-RBPT-powered RB20 when the team held it’s shakedown at Silverstone this week before all teams head to the Bahrain International Circuit next week for pre-season testing February 21-23.
“Unfortunately it was quite wet so you’re only driving on rain tyres, but everything was working very well, and I think that’s always great,” the world champion continued. “You drive out of the box and there are no problems, and you just do what you have to do before you get to Bahrain.” Verstappen concluded. Perez also gave his reaction about his new office and praised his team for exploring a new concept in 2024, despite the Milton Keynes based-outfit’s success last campaign.
“You can see that the team has done an incredible job,” the Mexican said. “We’ve gone very aggressive with the concept, so I’m looking forward to it. I find it great from Red Bull that we’ve had such a dominant car last year, that we just changed completely our concept. It’s something that I think requires a lot of hunger in the team, to keep pushing all the boundaries. [It] will be interesting to see how everything feels on track.” Perez concluded. After pre-season testing is wrapped up, the 2024 FIA Formula One World Championship season races into gear at the Bahrain International Circuit on February 29-March 2.
