The Milton Keynes based-outfit went to the “city that never sleeps” for the season launch, with Team Principal Christian Horner overseeing the event alongside two-time World Champion Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and third driver Daniel Ricciardo.

The team revealed their 2023 appearance with the traditional blue, yellow and red – which captures Red Bull’s core colours.

However, Horner revealed that Red Bull will stage a competition and allow fans the opportunity to design a special livery for three Grands Prix held in the United States this year – Miami, Austin and Las Vegas.

Red Bull Racing head into the 2023 season looking to retain the World Driver’s and Constructors Championships, having flew to 17 victories out of 22 last campaign under the rule changes – with 15 of those victories scored by Verstappen.

Speaking at the launch, Horner explained:

“It’s incredibly special to be in the Big Apple, in the US, in New York. The US is playing such a big role in F1 these days – three Grands Prix, [with] Las Vegas coming onto the calendar as well – so it seemed only fitting to unveil the RB19, and our plans for the season ahead, here,”

On the 2023 season ahead Horner continued:

“It’s going to be an incredible season. Our rivals, for sure, haven’t stood still. We’re expecting Ferrari to be competitive, Mercedes are going to be there, [and] there’s some other teams that could well make some big progress as well.”

“This time of year, it’s all a big unknown, and it’s a question of focusing on ourselves, doing the best we can. Then in Bahrain, in a couple of weeks’ time, we’ll get to see everybody’s car and we’ll realise, ‘Have we missed something? Have we not?’

“Then we set off on this 23-race journey between March and November. There’s going to be highs and lows along the way, I’m sure, but I think we’re in a good place and looking to carry on that momentum from last year.” Horner concluded.

As Horner stated on their RB19 racer – and the 2023 challengers created by their nine rivals – will hit the Bahrain International Circuit for pre-season testing from February 23-25, followed by the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix a week later.

After confirming their return to the pinnacle of motorsport, Ford have revealed so through their long-term strategic alliance with Red Bull Powertrains, ahead of the new rules and regulations coming into effect from the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship season.

Earlier on Friday, Ford set out it’s plans to add a new chapter to their rich Formula 1 story, having powered to 10 World Constructors Championships and 13 World Driver’s Titles over the years – from Team Lotus with Graham Hill back in 1968 to Benetton and Michael Schumacher in 1994 – making them the third most successful engine manufacturer in Formula One history.

Starting this year, Ford and Red Bull Powertrains -The Milton Keynes-based squad’s engine division – will develop a next-generation power-train to supply both Oracle Red Bull Racing and sister-outfit Scuderia AlphaTauri from 2026 until 2030.

Based around the current 1.6L V6 Turbocharged Hybrid engines, Formula One’s future rules will see increased electrical power and 100% sustainable fuels, whilst also improving safety and lowering costs for manufacturers.

A giant of both the automotive industry and motorsport world, Ford are set to provide expertise in several areas of development including “battery cell and electric motor technology as well as power unit control software and analytics.”

“This is the start of a thrilling new chapter in Ford’s motorsports story that began when my great-grandfather [Henry Ford] won a race that helped launch our company,” explained Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman Bill Ford.

“Ford, alongside world champions, Oracle Red Bull Racing, is returning to the pinnacle of the sport, bringing Ford’s long tradition of innovation, sustainability and electrification to one of the world’s most visible stages.” Ford concluded. Credit to F1 for the quote.

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner stated:

“It’s fantastic to be welcoming Ford back into Formula 1 through this partnership. As an independent engine manufacturer to have the ability to benefit from an OEM’s experience like Ford puts us in good stead against the competition,”

“They are a manufacturer rich in motoring history that spans generations. From Jim Clark to Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, the lineage speaks for itself. For us as Red Bull Powertrains to open the next chapter of that dynasty, as Red Bull Ford, is tremendously exciting,”

“2026 is still a while a way but for us the work already starts as we look to a new future and a continued evolution of Oracle Red Bull Racing.” Horner concluded. Credit to F1 for the quote.

President and CEO of the Ford Motor Company Jim Farley commented:

“Ford’s return to Formula 1 with Red Bull Racing is all about where we are going as a company – increasingly electric, software-defined, modern vehicles and experiences,”

“F1 will be an incredibly cost-effective platform to innovate, share ideas and technologies, and engage with tens of millions of new customers.” Farley concluded. Credit to F1 for the quote.

Farley also stated that the American motoring giant will be “competing to win” in Formula 1, with new partner Red Bull Racing looking to enter the 2023 season and push to retain both Driver’s and Constructor’s Championship once again.

American automotive powerhouse Ford confirmed their intentions to return to Formula One when the new rules and regulations come into effect from the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship season, meaning another chapter will be added to the American organisation’s rich history in the sport.

Ford’s involvement in F1 stretches right back to the 1960’s with the DFV (Double Four Valve) engine, built in alliance with British engineering giant Cosworth, which claimed 155 victories from 262 Grands Prix between 1967 and 1985 (including a few variant designs).

From their first title triumphs with Graham Hill and Team Lotus in 1968 to their most recent with Michael Schumacher and Benetton in 1994, Ford have played a role in 10 World Constructor’s and 13 World Driver’s Championships – making them the third most successful engine manufacturer in the sport’s history.

Since the last time they featured on the grid in 2004, the appeal of Formula 1’s next generation power-trains – which features increased electrical power and 100% sustainable fuels is what lured the American automotive giant back to the pinnacle of motorsport from 2026 onwards.

President and CEO of Formula 1 Stefano Domenicali explained:

“The news today that Ford is coming to Formula 1 from 2026 is great for the sport and we are excited to see them join the incredible automotive partners already in Formula 1,”

“Ford is a global brand with an incredible heritage in racing and the automotive world and they see the huge value that our platform provides with over half a billion fans around the world,”

“Our commitment to be Net Zero Carbon by 2030 and to introduce sustainable fuels in the F1 cars from 2026 is also an important reason for their decision to enter F1,’

“We believe that our sport provides the opportunity and reach unlike any other and we cannot wait for the Ford logo to be racing round F1’s iconic circuits from 2026.” Domenicali concluded. Credit to F1 for the quote.

Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman Bill Ford added:

“This is the start of a thrilling new chapter in Ford’s motorsports story that began when my great-grandfather [Henry Ford] won a race that helped launch our company,”

“Ford is returning to the pinnacle of the sport, bringing Ford’s long tradition of innovation, sustainability and electrification to one of the world’s most visible stages.” Ford concluded. Credit to F1 for the quote.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem also stated:

“There are few manufacturers who have such a celebrated motor sport history as Ford, so to see them coming back to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship is excellent news,”

“It further underlines the success of the 2026 Power Unit Regulations that have at their heart a commitment to both sustainability and spectacle, and of course having more interest from the United States is important for the continued growth of the world’s top motor sport category.” Sulayem concluded. Ford’s announcement follows on from Audi’s plans to enter Formula One for 2026 and beyond, with the German manufacturer this week acquiring a minority stake in Sauber, which will become their works team.
